President Ma Ying-jeou inaugurated Photonics Festival in Taiwan and Display Taiwan 2008, accompanied by Yin Chii-ming, minister of economics affairs. Ma awarded the eleven winners of Outstanding Photonics Products this year in the ceremony.
"Taiwan's flat panel industry has become No.1 in the world in terms of production value and will achieve production of NTD 1.8 trillion by the end of 2008 and NTD 2 trillion by the end of 2010," he addressed, "and we're seeing properous developments in other sectors of Taiwan photonics industry as well, in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and promote environment conservation, promoting LEDs and PV industry is coherent with the government's goals for developing energy-saving and clean energy industries.กจ
Ma stressed his green policy goals, including reduction of carbon dioxide emission to the level of 2008 by 2016, half the level of 2008 by 2025 and half the level of 2000 by 2050.

PIDA hosted Photonics Festival in Taiwan and concurrent exposition Display Taiwan 2008 lighted up the floor of Taipei World Trade Center during June 11-13. The two shows had attracted 31,675 international trade visitors, including 28,064 domestic buyers and 3,611 overseas buyers with a growth rate of 14% compared to the 2007 events. Some 525 manufacturers from 12 countries displayed their products at 1,360 booths -- all record breaking numbers.
The participant of current Market & Technology Conferences also hit a record high by reaching 2,000 people with a 58% growth compared to last year.
The 3-day shows were expected to attract over USD 3.1 billion (about NTD 10 billion) business opportunities according to the estimation from Murphy Lin, the manager of PIDA.
The two shows had attracted 31,675 international trade visitors, including 28,064 domestic buyers and 3,611 overseas buyers.

Taiwan's Top Green Energy announced to produce polysilicon in Q3 2009 |

Top Green Energy Technology (TGE), Taiwan-based solar cell and module provider announced that the company is scheduled to produce polysilicon for photovoltaic on October 23rd 2009. The news was released by Simon Chang, president of TGE during his speech in the international seminar conference in Solar Taiwan 2008 in Taipei on June 13.
"TGE will be the first company to start massive production of polysillicon using Siemens process in the island", Chang indicated. The company plans to produce 1,500 tons of polysilicon in the first level and another 1,500 tons in the second level, which will mainly supply the production of its own solar cell and module. The move shows that TGE is stepping into the vertical integration further.
Top Green Energy was founded in 2006 and invested by Powercom, the World's second largest UPS provider. The annual capacity of TGE is expected to reach 30MW this year while Powercom is expected to reach 45MW.
