Recent PV Promotion Policies in Taiwan |
| |
Facing the global warming and the becoming exhaustion of energy, many Taiwan's policies are made to achieve the goal of energy-saving and carbon reduction. On one hand, the Executive Yuan passed the Energy-Saving and Carbon-Reduction Action Plan in September 2008, with which the Bureau of Energy put the promotion of photovoltaic application as the foremost among its annual objectives. The promotion comprises the demonstration of PV system, the Solar Roof Project, and Taipower PV term 1 Project.
On the other hand, the Council for Economic Planning and Development also passed in February 2009 the Plan of BIPV Demonstration in Public Architectures with budget about NT 487 million dollars. This plan is expected to achieve 1.6 MW as a total amount and to reduce CO2 by 24 thousand tons in 20 years.
Taiwan has been promoting the utilization of solar cells. However, the comparatively high cost still limits PV application in government facilities. In the following 3~5 years, government's policies would still play the most influential role in the promotion and prevalence of PV system in Taiwan.

Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) includes Tainan Science Park and Kaohsiung Science Park. Tainan Science Park is situated between Sinshih, Shanhua and Anding Townships of Tainan County with a total area of 2,565 acres. Kaohsiung Science Park is situated between Lujhu, Gangshan and Yong-an Townships of Kaohsiung County with a total area of 1,409 acres. Superiorly embraced by two superhighways, STSP aims to be an advanced, multifunctional and multinational industrial park.
Home to the most prominent TFT manufacturing chain in Taiwan, success has already firmly established itself in STSP and comes as a reward for present and future companies to share. According to statistics provided by the STSP Administration, by the end of 2007, the number of approved tenant enterprises totaled 220 with turnover of NT$558.87 billion, growing by 23.8% than the previous year; the employee number reached 50,000.It is estimated that in 2011, annual turnover of the STSP tenant enterprises will exceed NT$ 1 trillion.
With the advantages over spacious land, cheap rent for land, and stable water and electricity supply, STSP has become an important site for the innovation technology of Taiwan's Photonics industry and Green energy industry.

Echoing the bright performance of the photovoltaic industry in Taiwan, SOLAR Taiwan 2009, held from June 10 to June 12 2009, is set to be another successful story among the siblings in the Photonics Festival in Taiwan family. Riding high with clean energy and environmental protection issues, Solar Taiwan brings you the latest technology breakthrough and full vision of the solid infrastructure of Taiwan's solar cell manufacturers.
Following the success of the first event of its kind in 2008, Solar Taiwan comprises more exhibitors than that in 2008, with many leading players in the industry attending. Taiwanese PV maker Sinonar Solar and Japanese PV maker Nisshinbo will be there to show their latest products and development.
This year, the introduction of Advance Green Photonics Zone also helps boost the vision of Solar Taiwan 2009. According to show organizer PIDA, the Advance Green Photonics Zone will exhibit innovative green products from domestic industry and academia, exhibits including award-winning products, posters promoting green energy, vehicles powered by solar energy, models symbolizing the use of solar power and LED lighting technologies. Besides, a model for the main venue of the World Games 2009 Kaohsiung will be exhibited at the Advance Green Photonics Zone as well.
