Southern Taiwan Science Park ¡V the New Focus of Taiwan Photonics Industry

With the advantages over spacious land, cheap rent for land, and stable water and electricity supply, Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) has become an important site for the innovation technology of Taiwan's Photonics industry. In recent years, STSP has grown to be the strongest TFT-LCD cluster. According to a survey done by PIDA, in 2008, Taiwan's TFT-LCD panel production value is estimated to be 31.7 billion US dollars; meanwhile, production value of manufacturers from STSP is 9.8 billion US dollars, which represents a share of 31% of the total production value and reflects the importance of STSP in Taiwan's TFT-LCD panel sector.

Moreover, as to the rising green energy industry, STSP's contribution to Taiwan's energy photonics production value is even bigger, the production value of STSP regarding to LED epi wafer and PV cells is totaled 1.278 billion US dollars, representing 40% of total production in Taiwan.

Arima EcoEnergy Presents New HCPV Solar Solution in Photonics Festival in Taiwan

One of leading global CPV system integrators¡X ArimaEco¡X takes Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2009 as a perfect opportunity to present its new HCPV solar solution and share its overseas power plant installation experience, demonstrating the company's vertical integration capacity.

Arima EcoEnergy is a HCPV module manufacturer and solar energy system solution provider. The company passed the test of IEC 62108 in November 2008 and obtained compliance from ISFOC during a showcase event for its 10kW CPV on¡Vgrid Power Station.

During the 3-day show, ArimaEco displays "Solar Kid," a HCPV system which consists of a 400W HCPV module, a dual-axis tracker and a solar inverter. The other sparks is the current status of the 300kW CPV power plant project. ArimaEco is the sole Asian company out of the seven awarded bids of a 300kW project at ISFOC in Spain. ArimaEco has reached a maximum energy conversion rate of 39.6% for its GaAs HCPV modules, and is estimated to generate 20MW this year and 60MW in 2010.

LEDs & Photovoltaic Shine in Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2009

With about 360 exhibitors and 800 booths filled in Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2009, the show this year is particularly vitalized by LED and PV manufacturers¡X two of the most potential industry that will lead human life to a better and greener future.

The founder of PIDA (Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association) Dr. Peter Shih said during the opening ceremony that eco-friendliness can be reached through two ways¡X to reduce and to produce. The former indicates LEDs' features of energy-saving and high efficiency, while the latter refers solar cells as an alternative/ clean energy, both of which echo to the theme of this year¡X "Green Photonics" ¡X photonic technologies or products that are energy-saving, low-/non-polluting, or able to generate or conserve energy.

Dr. Shih further pointed that LED industry has poised for explosive growth. With the newly passed policy, the government is beefing up LED industry by putting 37.5 million US dollars and 4 million US dollars respectively in replacement of traffic lights and street lamps. "2009 is the time," said Dr. Shih.
