Changes in Automotive Displays

 

In the past five years, the automotive display market has enjoyed double-digit annual growth mainly due to the increasing demand for in-car infortainment. Automotive displays, especially the entertainment navigation system, has changed from being the standard equipment of high-end luxury cars to being a value-added option for popular models. The business model is characterized by the maintenance and customization of the supply chain relationship. The ecology still features the traditional automotive industry suppliers.

When cars are semi-autopiloted, in addition to demand for entertainment navigation systems, advanced driving assistant systems (ADAS) such as lane departure, blind spot detection, active vehicle distance control and night vision are installed as an indication of increased demand for safe driving information as automotive displays have become a necessary equipment. For the applications market, from the central stack entertainment navigation to dashboards, head-up displays and even to rear-view mirror displays and control panels in the back seat, the demand. As different applications do not have a different supply chain, there are more and more players entering tier one of the automotive display systems and similarly there are more and more TFT LCD display manufacturers joining the race. The entire supply chain begins to show chaos as high-end and low-end products co-exist.

A The changes in the appearance of the screen has always been a key factor in stimulating the need for smart phone upgrades. For example, the change in Apple iPhone appearance and screen size triggers a wave of phones changing every year while Samsung unveiled AMOLED its 5.8-inch / 6.2-inch panels for Galaxy S8 / 8 + with a 18.5: 9 length-width ratio in April and has already sold about 20 million units in the first half of 2017. The iPhone 8 launched by Apple in this September will feature a 5.8-inch 19.5: 9 AMOLED panel. A strong demand is still expected despite a general price higher than 1,000 US dollars. Frameless AMOLEDs and high-screen ratios enjoy a relative advantage. Galaxy S8 / 8 + and the new OLED iPhone have reached a screen ratio higher than 80% with a frameless design. Other smart phone makers are not able to obtain enough AMOLED panels and have shifted to the use of LTPS LCDs which can also achieve AMOLED-like performance in both frameless and full-screen performance. Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Sony, and even Nokia have plans to launch ultra-wide-screen LCD smartphones in the third quarter of this year. White-label smartphone makers also plan to release a-Si 18: 9 products at the same time. IHS Markit expects the global handset manufacturers to ship 170 million smartphones with 18.x: 9 panels in 2017.

The recognition process is precise, quick and features excellent heat dissipation. This makes it perfectly suitable for iris recognition applications in security surveillance systems (access control) and portable handsets.

Following the market demand and the resulting development of appropriate high technology, the concept of ˇ§body is access codeˇ¨ has been integrated into many systems and devices. Smart biometric identification allows measuring the usersˇ¦ unique patterns in the fingerprint, voice, iris and face quickly and easily to avoid the problem of recalling traditional long passwords. Infrared LEDs for non-contact optical identification have the advantages of compact size, strong security and quick recognition speed which make them to an increasingly sought-after advanced technology around the world.

EVERLIGHTˇ¦s NIR-C19M series for non-contact optical iris recognition adopts a molding manufacturing process. Compared to the traditional glue dispense manufacturing process, molding results in a smoother surface which not only enhances the look but also increases reliability. The NIR-C19M series works with a wavelength of 810nm and uses an advanced ISP image processor together with CMOS sensor to receive the infrared reflection by the human eye to authenticate iris identification. Its unique optical design achieves a clear high reflection rate, a small angle (FOV=25) and a radiant intensity of up to 2,700mW/Sr below / less than 1000mA. The heat dissipation with a thermal resistance of 4.38˘J/W is superior to any other competing product in the market. The device has also passed IEC62471, a safety regulation to prove that no harm arises to human eyes and skin. In addition to these excellent optical features, the dimension of NIR-C19M series is merely 3.5 x 3.5 x 2.3 mm which is particularly desirable for space-constrained portable devices.
