Taiwan Photonics News : Biophotonics Industry Takes Off
  PIDA Activities : PIDA to Prep for Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2008

  The recently held "Taiwan Biophotonics Industry Development in the Next 3 ~ 5 Years" seminar took place on September 8. According to research from the U.S. National Science Foundation, the global biophotonics industry production value will exceed US$53.6 billion during 2008-2009. Also, it is expected that biophotonics will soon be the new "star" industry, following that of FPD, LED and PV. Having always been at the forefront of the various photonics industries in Taiwan, PIDA was proud to invite Taiwanese and international experts in the photonics industry as well as professors and experienced doctors to attend the seminar. The event provided a platform for all to have face-to-face discussions on the challenges, solutions and exciting opportunities in the biophotonics field in the future.
 

Good News are coming from all over the world as promotions for Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2008 are heating up.

PIDA in Shanghai, China

Mr. Ryan Chung, Business Development Manager at PIDA, was pleased to attend the 4th. China International Forum and Exhibition on Solid State Lighting recently held at the ShanghaiInternationalExpoCenter in China.¡§I was surprised at how strongly China is pursuing SSL technologies and at the high caliber of people in attendance,¡¨ reported Mr. Chung.He continued, ¡§I was pleased to also meet up with representatives from big name companies such as Dow Corning and GE Plastics.It is great news that Dow Corning has confirmed a four-booth area for our 2008 exhibition in Taiwan and has also offered a speaker for our conference program.GE Plastic has recently merged with Sabic and will be confirming their participating at a later date.¡¨Mr. Chung noted that, in the commercial exhibition area of the Shanghai expo, some Taiwanese companies also participated, including Everlight.The forum and exhibition in Shanghai was organized by the China Solid-state Lighting Alliance (CSA) and they are contemplating bringing a delegation to Taiwan for next year¡¦s expositions.

PIDA in South Korea

The recently held IMID exhibition in Daegu, South Korea had attracted some 135 companies and around 20,000 visitors to the show, as well as the organized conferences.Some of the companies participating in IMID including SEMES, K.C. Tech., SNU Precision, J&C Tech, Saehan Industries and SFA also attended Display Taiwan 2007. "It was really great to hear from all the participating Korean companies that they were very satisfied with the business generated and will most definitely participate in Display Taiwan 2008," Mr. Chung enthusiastically reported. There has been a recent amalgamation of two industry associations in Korea ¡V the former EDIRAK and KODEMIA are now the Korean Display Industry Association, or KDIA.The KDIA are planning for a space of around 30 booths for Display Taiwan 2008 and are also talking about hosting a special "Korea Day" within the conference program.It is expected that VIP's from Korean companies such as Samsung and LG could speak in the conference.

PIDA in Long Beach, California, U.S.A.

Riding on the success of the inaugural Solar Taiwan 2007, PIDA's Research Team Manager (Solar), Ms. Stephy Chen and Mr. Ryan Chung will be attending the Solar Power 2007 exhibition from September 24 ~ 27. The pair will be there to promote Solar Taiwan 2008 which will be staged under the theme of "Shining in the Solar Era"."Our target is to attract materials and equipment manufacturers to Taiwan," Mr. Chung explained, "Our local PV industry is booming and there are many new production lines which are going to begin operations soon.It is the perfect time for international companies to consider coming to Taiwan and to enjoy the good business opportunities here." Mr. Chung and Ms. Chen are hoping to meet up with companies such as Sharp, Applied Materials, GE Energy, GT Solar, Inc. and Q-cells AG. "We will exchange information with these companies," Mr. Chung said. "There are also mutually-beneficial opportunities for PIDA to cooperate with the Solar Power 2007 organizer, SEPA, in the areas of market research and conferences," he continued.For her part, Ms. Chen plans to attend many seminars and gather technical and market information to share with PIDA members upon her return to Taiwan.
