High Efficient Color Solar Cells from LOF Solar Corp. Taiwan

Taiwan-based LOF Solar Corp has announced that it will start up of in house production of high efficient colored solar cells at the beginning of 2009 using a manufacturing equipment from German solar cell equipment supplier Centrotherm Photovoltaics AG, a leading international provider of technology and services for the production of solar cells and solar silicon.

According to CEO and Chairman Prof. Hwang Huey-Liang , production will run at an initial 30 megawatt annually but by the end of five years a wafer-based capacity of 555 MW solar cells is predicted. At the end of ten years quantities are expected to reach 1.5 GW of the wafer-based type solar cells and 500 MW in thin film type.

LOF claimed that its colored solar cell could reach an efficiency rate of 15.3%, almost on a par with the performance of conventional type solar cells with a price tag that is 10 % higher. "The main application will be in the BIPV-building integration Photovoltaic market," Hwang added.

Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2009 to enlarge its scale than ever

Thanks to the vigorous development of Taiwan's photonics industry, the scale of the Photonics Festival in Taiwan grows ever larger. The 2008 show booths were sold-out at the beginning of January. PIDA is proud to announce that the 2009 event will move to the "newly opened" Taipei World Trade Center Nangkang exhibition Hall (June 11-13, 2009) thus serving more exhibitors.

The PIDA hosted Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2008, held in conjunction with Display Taiwan 2008 will take place during June 11-13,2008 in Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1, combining expositions such as OPTO Taiwan 2008, LED Lighting Taiwan 2008,SOLAR Taiwan 2008 and OPTICS Taiwan 2008. Photonics Festival in Taiwan not only shows the strong performance of the Taiwan photonics industry, but also provides an ideal promotion platform for global companies.

The 2009 registration will start from mid-April. Early-bird discount will be valid before August 10, 2008. For further information please contact Ms. Pamela Hsiao, via email: exhibit@mail.pida.org.tw, or phone call :886.2.2351.4026 ext. 805.

PIDA and German counterpart VDMA strengthen ties

German and Taiwan ties and cooperation in the photonics industry are poised for a new take off when German Flat Panel Display Forum (DFF) - a member of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) ¡V attends Display Taiwan again this June.

The prospects of closer relationship between the PIDA and its German Counterpart VDMA were confirmed by Ryan Chung, PIDA's business development manager, following his meeting recently with VDMA representatives during his visit to the Light Building show in Frankfurt.

At the same time Chung introduced PIDA's promotion plan & current status for Display Taiwan 2008 to Dr.Susanne Bieller, project manager of DFF ¡V a member of VDMA and organizer of the German Pavilion at the show. In addition Chung had proposed an invitation to DFF for delivering a presentation on organic electronics at the Display Taiwan 2008 Business & Technology Forum.

Founded in 1882, VDMA is the largest national industry association in Europe with about 3000 member companies who are mainly SMEs. It comprises 38 member associations, including the German Flat Panel Display Forum (DFF). All member associations are located at the Frankfurt headquarters of VDMA.

DFF itself, groups some 80 members. It was founded in 2000 and acts as the networking platform for R&D, suppliers, producers, and users in the German flat panel display industry. DFF services are grouped into five member service projects that include: networking, news services, training & education, fairs & conferences and competence brochures. Display Taiwan 2008 is one of the three shows DFF will attend this year.
