Accounted for 17% in the global market, Taiwan photonics industry total production value in 2007 reached USD 63.3 billion and it is very likely to break USD 90 billion in 2011, according to the statistics from Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA). Taiwan ranks World’s no. 1 in TFT-LCD production, no. 2 in LED packaging production value and no. 4 in solar cell production value in 2007.

The total value of its FPD industry will surpass USD 60 billion mark in 2009. Both in terms of production value and capacity, Taiwan has become the world’s largest TFT LCD supplier. The production value has taken 42% of the global TFT-LCD and module packaging market. Furthermore, the total production value of Taiwan solar cell manufacturers is USD 1.39 billion dollars. It is estimated that the total production capacity of solar cell will reach 1,148MW, with a production value of US 3.13 billion dollars in 2008.
